As the new year is upon us, the Moriah kindergarten students discussed the significance of the shofar. The children understand that the sounds of the shofar are likened to an alarm clock, which awakens us to focus on our behaviors and commit to being our best in the new year. A visit from the shofar factory brought these abstract concepts alive with a meaningful, hands-on activity! The students first had fun listening to facts about the shofar: where it comes from, how it is made, and how and why we blow it on Rosh Hashanah. The children then selected a real shofar of their own, sanded and shellacked it, and prepared it for use. Each child is so excited to bring home their very own shofar!
