On Monday, June 18, a spring league ice hockey team, called the “Tribe,” and consisting entirely of Jewish 13-14 year old boys, won the spring league ice hockey championship at Floyd Hall in Montclair, after defeating Paramus 5-2. Paramus, previously unbeaten (10-0-1), faced an onslaught of shots and defensive pressure from the Tribe. Although the game was a back-and-forth battle with lots of shots, hitting and numerous penalties on both sides, the Tribe was able to pull through in its strongest game of the spring league season. Lewis Leibowitz chose an opportune time to net his first goal of the spring league, and the Tribe also got scoring from Gabriel Hornblass, who played with heart throughout the game at both ends of the ice. Also contributing to the scoring were Dovid Schulhof, Alexander Freilich and Isaac Mendelson. The team also got stellar defensive and offensive two-way play from Alex Jacobs and Jordan Serviss, while the rest of the team hit, skated and defended its way to the championship. Goalie Eitan Rosenblatt battled flu-like symptoms to play brilliantly in net all game, giving up only two goals to secure the championship.
