Last Wednesday night, the TABC Varsity Basketball team drove into MTA for its season opener. From the first tip the game was a struggle for the Storm as despite good ball movement, shots were simply not falling. However, the defensive pressure led by Captain Solo Shulman (’15) and Azi Fine (’15) kept them in the lead going into the half.
In the 2nd both teams hit some key shots with Moshe Brum (’15) hitting a few timely jumpers and Big Man Shua Naor (’15) hitting a few shots in the post. After four quarters the score was tied and the first overtime session began. Juniors Gavi Smith (’16) and Aaron Heidenman (’16) brought defensive pressure in TABC’s signature press called “helter,” causing a few turnovers and subsequent fast break points. However, it was not enough in the first overtime and the Storm went into its second overtime. In the second overtime, the Storm took control and hit their foul shots leading to a close 6-point win.
The Varsity Storm improves to 1-0 going into its next game against HANC and then its trip to the Cooper Tournament in Memphis, Tennessee next weekend.
