It was quite a long time ago that the Jews of Persia (Iran) were threatened by Haman. Haman has morphed into Hamas, with Iranian college students storming the U.S. embassy in between then and now (1979-1981). The liberation from harm in Persia was revisited by the incarceration but eventual liberation of 52 hostages held in Iran by college students for 444 days. Jimmy Carter’s inability to navigate through inflation and get the hostages freed cost him a defeat and the rise of Ronald Reagan.
And here we are today with hostages forcibly taken from Israel by Hamas during a questionable cease-fire. It is important to remember that thousands of rockets had been used to terrify Israelis even before Oct. 7. Hostages of women and children were taken from Israel, which is against the very clear creed of the Koran. It is not a desire for land or even a religious obligation.
The present catastrophe is born out of a hatred of Jews. Kidnapping is not just forbidden by the Torah but by the Koran itself. To make matters worse, hostages are being held until Israel frees rapists and terrorists of all types from Israeli jails.
Pressure is being put on Israel to release criminals. Pressure is put on Israel to refrain from defending itself. Pressure is being put on Israel to accept a Palestinian state. What pressure is being put on Iran and its proxies from threatening Israel? Every Jew in Gaza was removed from Gaza in 2005 in order to prepare the people for a measure of self-determination. Despite millions of dollars funneled into Gaza by UNRWA, the ethnic cleansing of Jews was replaced by tunnels by Hamas as preparation for the killing of Jews.
It is difficult to imagine Israel accepting a neighboring state of neighbors whose mindset is the killing of Jews. It is difficult for Jews to accept the seriousness of a two-state solution after the world has been drowned in a propaganda of hate against the Jews that has been financed by the enemies of Jews. Yes, Rep. Omar, “It is all about the Benjamins.” And, yes, Joe Biden, take a lesson from Jimmy Carter. You cannot appease Iran and get fair results.
First release all hostages at once, Then defeat Hamas. Then talk about security for Israel. Then negotiate a possible Palestinian state. In 1948 it could have been done and we would have avoided 75 years of war. But the Arabs of Palestine never said, “Yes” for Israel. Until that day comes there is no sense in talking about creating a hostile state next to Israel.
