Yeshiva break is just around the corner! Whether traveling to the amazon, or kicking back in the sunshine state, hair is most definitely the last thing you want to fret over. With so many things on your checklist, including looking great for pictures and dinners out, let me share with you some traveling tips for keeping your wig beautiful and fuss free while on the go.
I love the “expandable wig travel case” made by Dini Wigs that can be ordered on Amazon. It’s a soft, round box that can be easily placed in your carry-on or luggage. I would recommend ordering it with the “adjustable collapsable expandable travel wig head.” The collapsable wig head keeps the wig’s shape while traveling, and expands to a wig head when you get to your destination, so that your wig holds its style and has a place to rest when at your destination.
As an alternative to using an official wig carrying case, one could use a shoe box. Spray the inside of the box with static guard or use a silk scarf to wrap around the wig to prevent static and the wig hair from frizzing. In order to hold the wig’s shape better, you can stuff the cap with tissue paper or socks. Also available are plastic portable wig stands that you can use to store your wig on once in the hotel. If your sheitel has curls, the curls will stay longer if you collapse them into each other. Be sure to pack the shoe box on top of your carry-on or luggage. If you are flying, always pack your wigs in your carry-on!
If you’re in a real pinch, you can use a plastic bag. Turn the wig inside out, and blow air into the bag so that the wig is surrounded by an air cushion, which will prevent it from being crushed and flattening. If you have nothing at all available to wrap your wig in, you can turn it inside out while traveling to keep the hairs safe from friction and knotting and keep them clean. Don’t forget to pack your wig grip, wigs comb, brushes and sprays that you use for touch-ups on your wigs. I find it best to buy travel-size hair sprays and powders so they don’t take up too much room. And finally, always be sure to pack a hat, rain cover or extra head covering to wear should the weather not cooperate.
