(Courtesy of Amcha-Coalition for Jewish Concerns) Eli Lunzer holds a Torah scroll aloft during the annual Tisha B’Av prayer service for Israel and Jews in danger worldwide at the United Nations’ famed Isaiah Peace Wall. The Ralph Bunche obelisk, named for the American diplomat who brokered the end to Israel’s War of Independence, was festooned with signs indicating for which communities prayers were offered, from Israel to Europe and the former USSR, and victims of American domestic terror. Rabbi Steven Exler of the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale led the worshipers who, following the service, marched with Rabbi Avi Weiss to the Argentinian UN Mission, marking the 25th anniversary on the Jewish calendar of the horrific bombing at the AMIA Jewish communal building in Buenos Aires.
