TorahWeb.org Presents Shiurim on Elul and Sports

Bergenfield–On Sunday, September 14, TorahWeb.org will present two shiurim at Congregation Beth Abraham. At 8 p.m., Rabbi Mayer Twersky will present an introspection on the topic of Elul, entitled, “Do We Really Believe? Are We Really Committed?” At 8:45pm, Rabbi Mordechai Willig will discuss athletics in a Jewish context with, “Are Sports Kosher? A Torah Perspective on Sports.”

Both Rabbis Twersky and Willig are part of TorahWeb’s board. The TorahWeb Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, was founded in 1999 by the Yeshiva University community in the metro area. Its goal is to disseminate divrei Torah and hashkafa (points of view/philosophy), with special attention to contemporary religious and social issues. The other members of the board are Rabbi Hershel Schachter and Rabbi Michael Rosensweig.

TorahWeb sends out a weekly email with a d’var Torah, written by one of ten rebbei to almost 4,000 people, with redistribution to other lists in Australia, Africa, Israel, and Europe. In addition to Rabbis Schachter, Willig, Twersky and Rosensweig, six other rebbeim also regularly write for TorahWeb, including Bergen County residents Rabbis Yaakov Neuburger, Rabbi Zvi Sobolofsky, Rabbi Dr. Abraham Twerski, and Rabbi Benjamin Yudin. Two additional contributors are Rabbi Yaakov Haber and Rabbi Yonasan Sacks.

TorahWeb also presents three live lailot iyun annually on topics relevant to the time of year and specific needs of the community. The three events generally take place in three different neighborhoods: One in Teaneck/Bergenfield, one in Fair Lawn, and one in Queens or Long Island.

TorahWeb’s website contains archives of both the weekly divrei Torah as well as audio and video of TorahWeb events going back to 1999. All ten rebbeim have material housed on the site, divided into three sections: divrei Torah, audio and video shiurim. The website gets an impressive amount of traffic and is considered both a community resource and an assist for those learning in Yeshiva.
