(Courtesy of Touro College) Rabbi Shmuel Klammer, Ed.D., was appointed academic dean of Touro College Israel (TCI), Dr. Alan Kadish, Touro president, announced today.
A leading expert in Jewish education, Rabbi Klammer recently directed curriculum development for the Jewish Education Program at Touro’s Graduate School of Jewish Studies where he also served as adjunct professor. Rabbi Klammer has served in high-level educational positions, as head of school at Shulamith School for Girls and as principal at Hebrew Academy of Long Beach. He earned both his Ed.M. and Ed.D. from Teachers College at Columbia and semicha from Yeshivat Rabbeinu Yitzchak Elchanan.
Rabbi Klammer holds a B.A. and M.S. in Jewish Education from Yeshiva University and Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education. He also studied at Yeshivat Kerem B’Yavneh and at the Gruss Kollel of Yeshiva University in Israel.
In his new role at Touro College Israel, Rabbi Klammer is looking forward to developing additional programming and growing the student body. He plans to expand distance learning opportunities and maximize the use of technology to meet student needs. He seeks to expand program offerings and utilize research and best practices in teaching and learning to engage students.
“I am greatly anticipating the opportunity to help students at TCI receive a fine education and, ultimately, become contributors to society while pursuing meaningful career paths,” said Rabbi Klammer. “Touro College Israel is a pioneering institution that represents Touro College and University System’s strong connection to Israel.
