Trace Your Family Tree at Congregation Beth Aaron

Curious about your family’s lineage or early origins? Have you ever wanted to start an online family tree, but didn’t know where or how to start? Do you want to understand how genetics plays into your roots? Join David Fisher on Sunday, March 17, at 7 p.m., at Congregation Beth Aaron, as he discusses an online genealogy program, www.geni.com, and how to get started on your family tree. The class will cover popular genealogy websites such as Ancestry.com and 23andMe.com, finding information through census records and passenger ship manifests, the Koheingene, whether DNA testing can determine Jewish status, forensic genealogy and other related topics. Congregation Beth Aaron is located at 950 Queen Anne Road in Teaneck.

David Fisher has over 17 years of experience working in New York City’s largest forensic DNA laboratory. He has worked on thousands of homicides, sexual assaults and property crime cases involving forensic DNA typing. David has testified as an expert in DNA on many occasions and is an avid genealogist in his spare time. He is currently the director of the new Forensic Science program at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).
