Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

Israel is a country of immense natural beauty, world-class culture, rich history, and amazing people. Israel is a premier tourist destination with dramatic landscapes, countless cultural flavors, and sites. As Israel gets ready to welcome back visitors after two years of COVID restrictions, American Friends of Soroka Medical Center invites you to join its memorable mission to Israel on July 7-14.

Take a deep dive into the culture, technology, and innovations that make up the fabric of Israel on this immersive seven-day trip. Explore Israel from north to south. Starting in Jerusalem, visit the Western Wall, tour hidden gems in the Old City, discover the history of Rehavia, and so much more with a variety of special guests, speakers, and entertainers. See the Negev from the unique perspective of the Beta Yisrael Ethiopian Community and a local Bedouin village, while experiencing Israeli startup culture focusing on health and sustainability. At the heart of the Negev lies Soroka Medical Center, Israel’s leading medical institution, caring for over a million people from all walks of life.

AFSMC’s mission participants will attend a special dedication ceremony at Soroka, honoring Israel’s newest cultural landmark on Sunday, July 10. A monumental art installation, “The History of the Star of David” by American artist Marc Bennett, will be unveiled, celebrating the impact of art and healing. Situated in the healing gardens of The Legacy Heritage Oncology Center and Dr. Larry Norton Institute, the artwork invites anyone who walks through Soroka’s gates to reflect on the meaning of the Magen David throughout history: exuberating hope, perseverance, and strength to patients, families, medical staff and tourists.

“This trip is a wonderful way to join our special Soroka Friends community, learn about the intricacies of the Negev, and see the impact we make on the lives of the people in Israel,” said Board Treasurer Hillel Caplan, who regularly joins the Soroka Mission to Israel with his wife, Joann. Hillel and Joann are longtime residents of Teaneck and are happy to explore the wonders of Israel through AFSMC’s mission. Hillel added, “Soroka is a vital institution for Israel with nearly 5,000 employees working closely with the community. Having been involved with Soroka Medical Center and American Friends of Soroka, with multiple visits to the hospital and various opportunities to speak with staff and patients, I deeply appreciate its work and worldwide impact. I am thrilled to return to Israel this summer with AFSMC for a trip like no other!” Please visit Soroka.org/Mission to register and contact Rachel at 914-725-9070 with any questions.
