An art project last week led by a synagogue member raised more than $1,000 for the Chabad of Yonkers/Greystone synagogue, and taught skills to all the participants. Shifra Gritta, born in Argentina, contributed her art talents, teaching more than a dozen women and children to shape and twist metal and beads into Tree of Life necklaces.

Gritta made packages with the necessary materials for all the participants, guiding and instructing how to best use the materials. A handcrafting Tree of Life free-standing sculpture, valued at $180, was awarded in a raffle, raising even more money for the synagogue.
