As Tu B’Shevat approaches, The Moriah School kindergarteners have been talking about trees, and delving into different interesting aspects about these large, woody plants. The children had an opportunity to express their creativity by fashioning trees using an unusual technique—torn paper art. Based on the Japanese art form Chigiri-e, the entire artwork is created by tearing bits of colored paper and gluing them onto the paper to create the picture. As the children planned their trees, each child decided on the season and time of day for their scenes. They then started with the tree, and added the surrounding details. The results were really amazing.
