Twelve Catalytic Converters Stolen Overnight in Teaneck

A release from the Teaneck Police Department has reported that twelve catalytic converters were stolen from vehicles across the Teaneck area at some point overnight between Monday, January 30 and Tuesday, January 31. Chief of Police Andrew R. McGurr announced the investigation of these thefts, of which the perpetrators are still at large.

According to the police report, officers responded to a call at approximately 3AM on Wyndham Road, where a resident heard the sound of saw being used outside their home. Police determined that a catalytic converter had just been cut off of a vehicle. Shortly after, Teaneck PD responded to another call on Suffern Road, where another catalytic converter had been stolen. The caller described the suspect vehicle as a dark-colored SUV. As the morning progressed, more reports of stolen catalytic converters rolled in, and as of 2PM, a total of twelve thefts have been reported.

The thefts were reported in the River Road Municipal Parking Lot, on Churchill Road, Edgewood Road, Beverly Road, Cornwall Ave, Winthrop Road, Ester Ave, Briarcliff Road, Ogden Ave and Taft Road.
The vehicles targeted were as follows: one Honda Pilot 2003; five Honda Accords 2003, 2005, 2006, 2006, 2007; four Honda CRVs all 2006; one Honda Odyssey 2000; and one Mitsubishi Outlander 2022.

This investigation remains ongoing, and Chief McGurr is urging people to call the police department if they hear power tools in the middle of the night or if they observe suspicious vehicles or people in the roadway at night who may be involved in the theft of catalytic converters.  Anyone with information about this or other investigations is urged to contact the Teaneck Police Department at 201-837-2600, or Crime Stoppers.
