Has anyone stepped up to use some basic math to show that there were not 20% of all U.S. Orthodox Jews at the siyum last week?
I was startled to read an article in shul this morning about the state of math in Brooklyn yeshivas and then read that letter in your paper.
Firstly, 90K/530K is 17%. Add in how much growth there’s been since 2013, there’s no way there were 90K people there, plus I assume he misread the Pew Report, etc. It’s likely 5-10%.
Regardless of the percentage, it was still an inspiring day, but math need not be thrown out the window.
