It has been a week back from vacation and already the MTA varsity basketball team is back on track and beating the competition. On Motzei Shabbat, February 4, the MTA Lions played the Kushner Cobras for the second time in the season. The last time the Lions went up against the Cobras, they beat Kushner by 24 points. In that game, the Cobras played zone for most of the game, which is why they may have switched to playing man-to-man for this game. Even so, MTA held onto the lead for the entire game. By halftime, the Lions were winning 17-8 after ending with an amazing buzzer-beater half-court shot from Eli Gruenberg, #24. Still, the Cobras kept on pushing and never gave up. They even managed to tie up the score in the middle of the fourth quarter, but the Varsity Lions just pushed even harder, winning the game 37-35. The top scorers were Eli Gruenberg with 13 points and Yehuda Colton with 12 points. The next day, the team beat Hillel 66-47 and still went to practice the following day. Their final game before the playoffs is against Magen David on Motzei Shabbat, February 11, at 7:30.
