U.S. State Department Confirms Upcoming Trump Meeting With Netanyahu

(JNS.org) The U.S. State Department confirmed Tuesday President Donald Trump will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu next week on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

“The president is planning to sit down with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and I know that the president’s looking forward to doing that,” State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert told reporters at a press briefing.

Confirmation of the meeting follows a statement made by Netanyahu Sunday night before departing on his historic visit to Latin America—the first visit by a sitting Israeli leader to that region.

“From Mexico, I will go to New York to speak at the United Nations General Assembly, and there I will meet my friend, President Donald Trump,” Netanyahu told reporters before boarding his plane at Ben Gurion Airport.

The last time the two leaders met in person was during Trump’s first visit to the Mideast region as president in May.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is also expected to meet with Trump at the U.N., a PA official reportedly told i24 News.
