On Monday, November 10, as part of a year-long unit of study, “Understanding Differences,” Ben Porat Yosef fourth grade hosted Mrs. Rose Pizzo, who spoke with them, through signing, about her experience as a deaf person. Morah Leah Margolin interpreted for the students. Mrs. Pizzo talked about growing up deaf, being a student at a special school for the deaf, and living as a deaf woman. She explained to the students the role of her service dog in keeping her safe, and the students learned that she is married with three hearing children and several hearing grandchildren. The students had many insightful questions and comments to share during this very meaningful experience.
