The YM-YWHA of Union, Adult Department, will begin the 2016-17 season in September. There are special activities, events and programs for both members and non-members alike. Mondays (beginning on Sept. 12) will be a Discussion Group with Sandy and then Senior Yoga with Neshe. Beginning on Tuesdays as of Sept. 6, Dr. Hank Kaplowitz will present a 13-week series (10:15 a.m.) on “Discovering Psychology.”
On Wednesdays (beginning Sept. 21) Rabbi Stanley Asekoff will hold his Jewish Study series, which will run 10:15–11:15 through June 2017. He will continue to discuss the Book of Exodus, and then the last book of the Torah, the Book of Deuteronomy. Also on Wednesdays beginning at 12:15 is the Art Class with Ruth Rosenzweig, focusing on painting with pastels. Thursdays are Exercise & Health Day in the morning, and Dr. Ken Melman of UCC Life Cycle offering a Nutrition course from 12:30–2:30 p.m. Fridays is Current Events and an Oneg Shabbat. All participants are welcome to stay for a delicious hot kosher lunch ($1.75).
Besides these regular weekly events, there is a “Welcome Back Party” with entertainment, “Broadway Musicals” with the Zelnicks (Wed., Sept. 21), an AARP Safe-Driving Class (Sept. 8), Flu Shot Day (Sept. 15) and Dr. Gilbert Kahn speaking at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18 on “The Jewish Vote in the Upcoming Presidential Election.” Members can attend classes free of charge; certain programs will cost $5 per class.
