US Is ‘Taking Names’ of Countries That Vote Against Trump’s Recognition of Jerusalem

(JNS) U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley stated Wednesday that the U.S. will be “taking names” of nations that vote in favor of a draft resolution in the U.N. General Assembly rejecting President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Following Monday’s U.S. veto of a U.N. Security Council resolution that called for the withdrawal of Trump’s Jerusalem recognition, the Palestinians initiated a General Assembly vote on the same measure that will take place Thursday.

Since the Palestinian Authority is a non-member observer state at the world body rather than a full U.N. member, a bloc of countries led by Turkey and Bolivia requested, on behalf of the Palestinians, that the General Assembly convene to vote on the resolution.

“On Thurs there’ll be a vote criticizing our choice. The US will be taking names,” tweeted Haley.

Haley also penned a letter to several U.N. ambassadors warning that she would be reporting back to Trump regarding which countries supported the measure.

“The president will be watching this vote carefully and has requested I report back on those countries who voted against us,” she wrote. “We will take note of each and every vote on this issue.”

Thursday’s measure is expected to pass due to the Arab and Muslim majority in the General Assembly, but it would only be a symbolic move and would have no practical implications for Israel or the U.S.
