The Jewish Community Council of Greater Teaneck, Teaneck Women Together and Muslim Women in Action sponsored a candlelight vigil on the Teaneck Township Green on Tuesday, March 19, to show solidarity with the Muslim community in light of the massacres in the Al-Noor Mosque and the Linwood Islamic Center.
The speakers included Teaneck Mayor Mohammed Hameeduddin (above right), Steve Fox representing the Jewish Community Council of Greater Teaneck and the Northern New Jersey Holocaust Memorial Committee, Rabbi Daniel Fridman of the Teaneck Jewish Center, Imam Moutaz Charaf (above left) of the El-Zara Mosque in Midland Park, and Yasmeen Al-Shaheeb representing Muslim Women in Action and Teaneck Women Together. Each speaker spoke about the importance of fighting hate wherever it occurs and denounced racism and anti-Semitism. It was a true outpouring of unity and support with members of all faiths in attendance, including many rabbis, priests and imams. At the conclusion of the program, special attention was given to not speak the name of the shooter or glorify him.
