The Wallerstein Foundation for Geriatric Life Improvement generously funded the refurbishment of the Slobodien Pavilion Solarium in memory of Rita and Melvin Wallerstein, ob”m. Mel’s family dedicated the renovation, calling it “Mel’s Spot,” as during his later years, as a resident at Daughters of Israel, Mel enjoyed sitting in the solarium, visiting with his wife or reading the newspaper. Mel was very involved with Daughters of Israel. In addition to being a major benefactor of the home, he served as a board officer for two decades. He was VP emeritus upon his passing.
