On Tuesday, April 5, the Bergen County Watershed Ambassador, Liz Baldera, visited Ben Porat Yosef and spent time with the sixth grade students. The students learned about the health of the local rivers and the impact of pollution. Baldera discussed the fact that different insects and other macroinvertebrates are present in the Van Saun Mill Brook located adjacent to BPY’s property, depending on its level of pollution. In order to build on this lesson and provide a key experiential component, the sixth graders will wade into the Van Saun Mill Brook to search for and identify macroinvertebrates in order to assess its pollution level.
