On March 1, Wave Runners, the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades swim team coached by Juya Cho, ASCA level 3 head coach, secured an impressive second place win in the state championships held at the Raritan Bay YMCA in Perth Amboy. Teams from six communities across the state competed. This impressive win followed what was an undefeated season in which the Wave Runners placed first at the All-Star Meet, as well as the five dual meets they competed in this year.
Wave Runners is a competitive swim team for boys and girls ages 5-17 that meets at the JCC from September through February in the JCC six-lane, 25-meter Epstein Family indoor pool. It currently has 120 swimmers on the team. The JCC offers year-round lap swimming, American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, American Red Cross Learn to Swim program, and private and semi-private lessons for children and adults. It also runs a non-competitive swim team program from March to August. All classes are taught by CPR-trained, experienced instructors who specialize in correct swim techniques.
