Everyone is a product of their past and their traditions. What are traditions? Why are they important? The kindergarten classes at WDS spent months answering these questions. They delved into the meanings of traditions generally as well as their families’ specific Shabbat and holiday traditions. From these discussions, the kindergarteners created their own unique Kabbalat Shabbat play celebrating their traditions, complete with beautiful singing, personalized story-telling and a slideshow of the grandparents and great-grandparents who have passed down these traditions m’dor l’dor. Challah boards and challah covers embraced the importance of this generational passage with beautiful family tree designs. And, of course, since the celebration was all about traditions, the fiddler on the roof made a guest appearance (bravo to the head of school!). After all, “without our traditions, our lives would be as shaky as a fiddler on a roof!”
