Maccabiah Color War 2025/5785 at Westchester Day School was nothing short of epic! With two full days of spirited competitions, meaningful Torah learning, and community-wide excitement, students and staff came together to celebrate achdut, creativity, and Jewish pride.
This year’s powerful themes—זָכוֹר (Zachor—Remember) for the Green Team and שָׁמוֹר (Shamor—Protect) for the Yellow Team—were drawn directly from the Torah’s dual commands to remember and guard the sanctity of Shabbat.
The energy across campus was palpable. Lower Division students competed in everything from the spirited first through fourth grade bucket brigade to the second grade’s laugh-out-loud “Whoopie” game. Upper Division students engaged in team challenges, creative arts, and high-energy sports, all while showing incredible sportsmanship! And throughout it all, the 8th graders stood out as leaders—writing original team songs, leading cheers, and keeping the ruach (spirit) high from start to finish.
A huge kol hakavod to both teams for embodying the best of WDS. And a big mazal tov to Team Shamor on taking home the win!
Whether students were cheering for Team Zachor or Team Shamor, they all walked away from Maccabiah stronger, prouder, and more united—the very essence of the WDS experience.
