On Friday April 23, County Legislator David Tubiolo spoke to seventh and eighth graders at school. The seventh grade just completed the U.S. Constitution and New York unit with Miss Roode in Social Studies and the eighth grade has continued their study of government throughout the year. Speaking to a county legislator about his role in government, his motivations for running for office, his accomplishments and goals enhanced students’ understanding of county government. Tubiolo helped bring the middle school civics curriculum to life by making the students mock legislators. Students were broken up into groups and given a bill to debate. Each group elected a chair to present the group’s final form of their bill to the grade and Tubiolo gave feedback. Students enjoyed demonstrating their knowledge of government to the legislator, engaging in an interactive activity and having their questions answered by Legislator Tubiolo.
