As WDS seventh graders make their journey through Sefer Shmuel Bet, they are always asking themselves what it might mean to live during the times of David HaMelech. Recently, they learned about David conquering the city of Yerushalayim, fighting off the Plishtim, bringing the Aron Brit Hashem to Yerushalayim, and asking Hashem to build the Beit Hamikdash. Then, students actually thought about what it might have looked like; from imagining David conquering the city to visualizing the harp David used to praise Hashem. Students were asked to exhibit three different objects from their learning that highlight the important ideas and themes of the stories and David’s religious importance to us in 5783. Students “excavated” these treasures and tied them back to the text. After learning together, students had the opportunity to walk around and see the various findings from their classmates and were impressed by their peers’ creativity and understanding of the stories.
