WDS Shows up in Record Numbers for Israel Day on Fifth

On Sunday, May 18, Westchester Day School students, faculty and families came out in record numbers to proudly represent their school and their unwavering support for Israel at this year’s Israel Day on Fifth parade. Donning bright, custom-designed HOPE t-shirts—created by WDS faculty—the WDS delegation was a vibrant, spirited presence among the tens of thousands who lined Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue.

Undeterred by crowds and long security lines, the WDS community marched with strength, pride and palpable joy. From toddlers on shoulders to middle schoolers singing with spirit, WDS participants embodied the very essence of Am Yisrael Chai.

“We came together not only to march for Israel, but to live out our values—of love for Eretz Yisrael, of unity, and of pride in our Jewish identity,” said Rabbi Dani Rockoff, Head of School at Westchester Day School. “It was inspiring to watch our students model menschlichkeit and lead with ruach.”

What stood out most was the remarkable behavior of WDS students, who carried themselves with dignity, pride and joy. As they waved Israeli flags and sang loudly for Medinat Yisrael, their enthusiasm lit up the avenue.

At WDS, they hope this parade serves as a powerful reminder that the spirit of Israel and the strength of Jewish identity are alive and thriving in the next generation.
