Second graders have been learning about plants and seeds in science class. This week, they examined different types of seeds and figured out their method of dispersion-how they are spread. They explored feathery seeds that fly on the wind, Velcro-like seeds that stick to animal fur, seeds that get buried or eaten, and seeds that float. Afterwards, students opened up the bean seeds they had planted last week to investigate what it looks like when they start to sprout. The students were able to identify the plant embryo within the seed and see how the roots and leaves were starting to grow!
