Instead of criticizing President Donald Trump’s condemnation of recent spikes in anti-Semitism like we’ve seen from left-leaning media outlets, we’d like to validate his words as important and timely. President Trump said on Tuesday, “The anti-Semitic threats targeting our Jewish community at community centers are horrible and are a painful and a very sad reminder of the work that still must be done to root out hate and prejudice and evil.”

His words came after at least 10 more JCCs nationwide received bomb threats this week and after many tombstones were overturned in the Chesed Shel Emeth cemetery that serves the St. Louis Jewish community.

First daughter Ivanka Trump tweeted: “America is a nation built on the principle of religious tolerance. We must protect our houses of worship & religious centers. #JCC.”

Make no mistake, Trump-objectors: All of us share the plights of those persecuted for their views, because we, as Jews, have been here before. We know that, as President Trump moves to secure our borders and tighten immigration regulations, there are those who will see this as offensive. However, we also have no doubt that President Trump cares for the security and safety of the American Jewish community. We also know that his administration would hardly tolerate these acts of hatred, just as he will not tolerate acts of hatred to Muslim or Christian communities.

The president is a close friend of the American Jewish community as well as Israel. These recent acts of hatred are antithetical to Trump and his administration. We doubt that his condemnation of these cowardly acts of hatred will stop, and we so appreciate that. For the left, don’t turn the president’s timing on comments and actions into something political. Let President Trump be the president, even when it comes to dealing with hatred.
