It is with much pride and joy that we present to the Jewish community in Bergen County our new free bi-weekly community newspaper – The Jewish Link of Bergen County (aka The Jewish Link or JLBC). We would like to state first that this paper is founded with the goal of capturing what makes our dynamic and growing community unique and to contribute positively towards its continued growth in the years to come. Another goal is also to connect our unique, dynamic, and rapidly growing Jewish communities that make up the Bergen County/Northern NJ area, specifically: Bergenfield, Englewood, Fair Lawn, Fort Lee, New Milford, Paramus, Teaneck, and Tenafly. We are the “Eight Towns” NOT the Five Towns. .
Our new paper aims to provide a voice for the Bergen County Jewish community and is committed to highlighting the best of what is taking place within the community without sugarcoating or distorting reality. We plan to regularly feature and promote our local schools, shuls, community organizations, adult, youth and yeshiva sports leagues. We will provide full-color coverage, event photos, relevant ads, exciting features, columns, opinion pieces, and divrei Torah – with priority given to contributors living in Bergen County or with strong ties to our community. It has been incredible to learn how many talented and, accomplished and world renowned Jews live in our community and we look forward to introducing many of our readers to them.
We are also aiming to be a positive and civil print forum for the unique, dynamic and growing religious communities in our county and we plan on covering local politics and community issues with an eye towards creating a unified Jewish communal voice for the Bergen County/Northern NJ area.
Our paper will be published on a bi-weekly basis and delivered free to over 4,500 households in Bergen County – a number we expect to grow rapidly. We apologize profusely if you didn’t receive the first edition at your doorstep this Friday morning. To rectify this, all you have to do is email with your address OR visit our website – www.jewishlinkbc.com – and sign up there. (If you don’t want receive our paper, that’s fine also and please let us know as well). Our paper will also distribute an additional 4,000+ copies at all of your favorite stores and shuls.
Our paper is backed by a number of community leaders and activists and we want to say thank you to the many we have met with and spoken to over the past six months. We have received more positive feedback and ideas than we have known what to do with but we promise – bli neder – to do our best to live up to the many expectations placed upon us.
Many visitors and recent newcomers to our community from strong Jewish communities such as the Five Towns, Brooklyn, Queens, often ask their Bergen County hosts and neighbors – Where is your Five Towns Jewish Times? Where is your Flatbush Jewish Journal or Queens Jewish Link? Our paper – backed and affiliated with the Queens Jewish Link – is finally attempting to answer that question. At the same time, we recognize that our community in Northern NJ has a different flavor and feel than the communities served by these other papers. We hope our product will reflect these differences positively and we are ever-open to your suggestions and feedback.
We can only be successful with your help and support. As a local newspaper, we need you to let us know what is happening in your community. Feel free to send us press releases, photographs (300 dpi), and advance notice of planned events in your synagogues and organizations, in your schools and social groups.
JLBC will be supported solely by advertisements and our rates will be incredibly affordable –with additional discounts for all nonprofit organizations.
We hope you enjoy our first issue and look forward to being in touch with you and with G-d’s help, growing together with you in the pages of this new paper (and our online edition) for many years to come.
