A parlor meeting to learn about BaMidbar Jewish Wilderness Therapy, a new program for Jewish adults, ages 18-26, in North America, who are struggling with mental illness, trauma-related issues and/or addiction will be held in West Orange. Jory Hanselman, program director, and Charles Elias, clinical director, will address attendees on Monday, October 30, at 8 p.m., at the home of Pam and Matt Greenwood, 21 Lakeview Dr., West Orange. Please RSVP to [email protected].
Addiction, trauma-related issues and mental illness are as common in the American Jewish community as in the rest of society, yet there are limited treatment options that fully meet the needs of at-risk, Jewish young adults. BaMidbar Wilderness Therapy will be the first kosher, Shabbat-observant wilderness therapy program in the United States. BaMidbar uses nature and adventure-based activities as part of a therapeutic process that promotes emotional, physical and spiritual wellness. The program’s clinical intervention and wilderness experience are provided through a Jewish framework. At BaMidbar, licensed mental health professionals provide individual, group and family therapy. Through backcountry travel, group living and adventure activities, students are challenged and given the opportunity to apply therapeutic learning in a safe, experiential environment.
