Westchester Day School Presents Rashi Play

Last Friday, Westchester Day School’s third graders performed their much anticipated Rashi Play in front of family and friends. Orchestrated by WDS Judaic Studies teacher Morah Meitav, the play was an insightful journey connecting the timeless teachings of Rashi to the challenging times that we face today. The play featured three perushim (commentaries) of Rashi, carefully chosen for their relevance to today’s world. The first commentary from Bria’at HaOlam emphasized the Land of Israel’s importance and significance for the Jewish people dating back to Creation. The second, from Chayei Sarah, focused on Jewish values embodied in Sarah’s tent, highlighting family life and the representation of the shechina (to dwell within). The third commentary connected to the weekly parshat hashavua, emphasizing unity at Har Sinai—one man, one heart, with a cameo appearance by Director of Judaic Studies Rabbi Nuriel Klinger, who highlighted the importance of standing together as one. The inclusion of Hebrew songs and a misheberach for the chayalim added a modern twist to Rashi’s teachings, making them accessible and relevant in today’s landscape.
