Westchester Jewish Council to Launch Jewish Literacy Program With Talk by Rabbi Meir Soloveichik

Westchester Jewish Council will launch its Jewish Literacy program on Thursday, March 31 at 7:30 p.m. at Young Israel of Scarsdale (also via Zoom), with a talk by Rabbi Meir Soloveichik on “The Best Passover and Seder Stories in American History—From the Revolution to Today.”

“The Jewish Literacy event on March 31 will be a wonderful opportunity for the Westchester Jewish community to come together—in person and virtually—to hear one of America’s foremost Jewish thinkers, as he shares some of his favorite Passover stories through the lens of American history—from revolutionary days to the present. It will also be a kickoff event for a larger program the Council is planning for next fall to provide a consortium of Jewish educational opportunities, which will be offered by our local rabbis,” said William H. Schrag, president of the Council.

Rabbi Dr. Meir Y. Soloveichik is one of America’s leading voices on Jewish ideas, religious freedom and faith in the modern age. After graduating from Yeshiva College, he obtained his rabbinic ordination from the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary of Yeshiva University. He holds a Ph.D. from Princeton in religion and currently serves as the director of the Straus Center for Torah and Western Thought at Yeshiva University. Rabbi Soloveichik is the rabbi of Congregation Shearith Israel in Manhattan.

This event is free and open to everyone in the community. Register online at www.wjcouncil.org

As Westchester’s Jewish community relations organization, the Council unites Westchester Jewry with the State of Israel, fosters communication among Jewish organizations and cultivates and strengthens relations with other ethnic groups, elected officials and the community at large.
