WTA’s eighth grade students took it upon themselves to study about David “Dugo” Leitner—a Holocaust survivor who survived the Death March by dreaming of making it to Israel and eating falafel there. Each year on January 18, Dugo honored his survival by eating falafel, a tradition that has become a significant part of Israeli culture. The eighth graders spent the day teaching middle and lower school students about Dugo and his inspiring story of resilience. To bring this meaningful day to life, the students worked together with Morah Anita, WTA’s Shinshin, to cook (and eat) falafel as an act of remembrance and a celebration of resilience.
