In conjunction with a unit on natural disasters, Mrs. Segal invited her former student, Ariel Schabes (‘09), to speak to the fifth graders about meteorology. Ariel is studying weather science at Rutgers University and he plans to pursue a career in broadcast journalism when he graduates next year. He talked about how he initially became interested in forecasting the weather, the cool tools he uses in his work, the diverse career opportunities that exist in the field of weather science, and why his job is important to people in their daily lives. The students enjoyed meeting him and having a real-life snapshot of something they have been studying. It was wonderful for the students, and especially the staff, to have Ariel back at Moriah.
