As the assistant to the director at a school for children with serious learning and behavioral disabilities in Paramus, Mara Miller of Ramsey has had a passion for athletic mentoring as well as coaching people of all abilities. When Mara learned a few years back that Jewish Family Service, located in Teaneck, delivers over 28,000 meals a year to the homebound elderly and disabled individuals throughout Bergen County, she wanted to get involved.
As captain of the marshals for the JFS Wheels for Meals fundraiser Mara was a natural. On June 15, this Father’s Day, JFS is holding its 4th Annual Wheels for Meals event in Rockleigh, NJ. This family-friendly event will feature 3-, 10-, 25-, and 50-mile rides as well as a fun walk.
Last year 439 people rode and raised over $132,000. This year over 600 people are expected to take part in the event, which has attracted sponsors such as Stop and Shop, Unilever, Pepsi, Becton Dickinson, and TD Bank to name a few. Registration is now open at www.ridetofighthunger.org
