With the sudden trending of bangs this season, it makes us want to run to our hair stylist and join in the fun, too. But before you get in front of those scissors, it’s important to know which bangs are right for your face shape, and more importantly, right for you. The goal of the bang is to help make your face appear more oval, while also enhancing your best facial feature and overall hairstyle.

Round Faces:

If you have a round-shaped face, there are two great options for you. Because of your softer edges and wider cheeks, you can pull off textured bangs, or side bangs. A short textured bang will give you a more elongated look of the face. A side swept bang that starts to hit the eyelashes and cascades diagonally down to the cheek bone creates a strong diagonal line that lengthens a round face.

Oval Faces:

If you’re face is an oval shape, you’re in luck as you can carry off any banging look! So be daring and courageous and try out some of the hottest trending bangs. Flip thru a celebrity magazine and have your stylist create that look you’ve always wanted but were too afraid to try! Whether you go for a blunt bang, choppy bang, edgy bang, short or long bang, they will all flatter you and give you a new fresh look.

Square Faces:

When working with a square or oblong face shape, the goal is to soften the jawline. A few cutting tips can be done to give your face the illusion of softness. A long, layered side bang is a popular choice because of the sweeping curve it creates across the forehead; blow it in all directions so that it has a lot of movement to it, creating softness. For an edgy and fun look try a center-parted bang. Since these bangs cover the side corners of the forehead they create the illusion of roundness. With a square face you can even pull off a full, centered bang provided its cut in a very textured way. Leaving some longer strands at the edges of the bang will help to add the softness. Square faces stay clear of short, wide, boxy bangs as they will make your face look even more square.

Long faces:

The long face is an amazing face for bangs! Since bangs fall right in the middle of your face, creating a horizontal line, it immediately creates a horizontal line that widens your face. And blunt (or textured) full straight-across bangs do just that!

Heart Faces:

Half-moon bangs are bangs in which the center is shorter than the sides. They are perfect for the heart-shaped face. You can also make these bangs feathery and or longer for a light and fresh look. (For inspiration, try looking at Selena Gomez’s new style.)

Bangs are a great way to spice up an old wig and transform it completely—everyone will compliment you on the “new wig” you bought! If you’re looking to change up your look for something different, consider starting off 2017 with a bang!
