Why I Am Supporting Gordon Johnson for State Senate

Assemblyman Gordon Johnson has served honorably in the New Jersey State Assembly since 2001. With the retirement of Senator Loretta Weinberg, I am pleased to support him in his candidacy for State Senate, for the primary election being held on June 8, 2021.

I have had the privilege of knowing Johnson for many years, and have come to know him as someone who, quite simply, picks up the phone and is there as a partner to his constituents. He has been extremely receptive to township leaders here in Teaneck and, as deputy mayor, I know I can count on him for his support, encouragement and help whenever we need it. He is literally always available to us and knows his constituents here and all around the region.

Johnson has been a particular supporter in pushing votes for Teach NJ’s advocacy plans to ease the burden of private school tuition for yeshiva day school candidates. When a candidate who had been briefly chosen to run on his ticket was unveiled as having made antisemitic comments about the store owners on Cedar Lane, Johnson immediately distanced himself from the comments and the candidate. We were all relieved when she dropped out of the race.

His overarching goals continue to be to work “to improve our transportation infrastructure, combat climate change and build a strong green energy future, continuing to make sure every child has access to the high-quality education they deserve.” I am proud to support Johnson’s priorities and goals.

Throughout the pandemic, Johnson has been present and advocating strongly on behalf of our community. “Today, my highest priority continues to be making sure we emerge from these difficult times safe, healthy and even stronger than before,” he said. I could not agree more.

Please consider casting your vote for Assemblyman Gordon Johnson on Tuesday, June 8.
