After back to back doubleheaders, TABC came out on top as the Sting and Wildcats succumbed to the Storm. TABC’s run began last Thursday at SAR with the varsity coming out on top, thanks to an outstanding performance from starting goaltender junior Chaim Mermelstein, who allowed only one goal to lead TABC to a 4-1 victory. This game was a full team effort with every player contributing in his own way. Standout performances by juniors Eitan Adler and Ryan Brandwein got TABC on the board first.
After the varsity game, JV was up next. The JV team came into the game full force with help from freshman forward Aiden Rauzman, sophomore Ezra Alter, sophomore Matis Krause and sophomore star goaltender Amichai Dresdner, as the team was able to score eight goals, including a career first for freshman Yoel Gellman, to secure the sweep at SAR’s home court.
On Sunday, both the varsity and JV teams headed to Long Island to face DRS, in a matchup of the only remaining undefeated teams in their respective leagues. TABC JV continued their dominance with a massive win in overtime, thanks to Alter who had a stellar performance and led the team with the overtime goal off of a beautiful backhand feed from sophomore Shay Fields. TABC was down 1-0 in a hard fought first period. Fields came out strong in the second and tied up the game with a beautiful wrist shot from the slot. Freshman Bentzion Keiser had a phenomenal game, scoring two goals, which gave TABC the lead and a lot of momentum to keep them in the game. Alter’s winner came a minute into overtime, after TABC dominated the beginning of the overtime session.
The varsity team was up next in this heavily awaited matchup. DRS started with a 1-0 lead at the end of the first period. TABC has been in this position multiple times this season and knew that the game was far from over. Senior Joey Zellig came out dominating and returned a goal to start the second period and tied up the game, 1-1. With the momentum clearly on TABC’s side, senior AJ Seplowitz put in a huge goal, bardown no less, which was undoubtedly a career highlight-reel goal. With outstanding performances from star defenseman junior Kovi Lightman and junior Moshe Keiser, TABC continued to work off this lead and momentum, to safely secure the 3-1 victory over DRS. Both the JV and varsity Storm are looking to continue their success, with an eye on winning the championship.
