Winners of 16th Annual Gaelen Juried Art Show & Sale Announced

West Orange, NJ—Winners of the 16th Annual Gaelen Juried Art Show & Sale, sponsored by Audrey and Norbert Gaelen of West Orange, were announced at the Opening Reception on Sunday, May 17. The show will run through Sunday, June 28, at the Gaelen Gallery West, Lautenberg Family Center, Aidekman Campus, 901 Route 10 East, Whippany.

Awards were presented for Best in Show and Best /Honorable Mention in the following categories: Photography, Drawing, Painting, Mixed Media and Sculpture. The distinguished panel of judges included: Lora Urbanelli, Director of the Montclair Art Museum; Lawrence Cappiello, Executive Director of Arts Guild New Jersey in Rahway; and Elaine Brodie, Fine Arts Chairperson and McGraw Gallery Director at Newark Academy.

The Gaelen Juried Art Show & Sale is highly selective with 56 artists from the greater MetroWest area represented with 86 works of art this year. Most of the art in the show is for sale. The Gaelen Committee includes Audrey & Norbert Gaelen, Co-Chairs; Gary Denburg; Simon Leventhal; Bernard Morcheles; Lois Dyer; Julie Levine and Oscar Peterson. The Gaelen Juried Art Show Coordinator is Lisa Suss.

Best in Show: Jeri Greenberg “Track 2 (Late Train)”

Best in Photography: Bill Cofone “Croatian Transit”

Honorable Mention Photography: Arthur Shapiro “Long Shadow”

Best in Drawing: Sally Lebwohl “Mr. French’s Sink”

Honorable Mention Drawing: Anita Gladstone “Whatever Comes”

Best in Painting: Lorraine De Prospo “Low Tide”

Honorable Mention Painting: Susan Philips “Tulips”

Best in Mixed Media: Ellen Hark “Three Faces”

Honorable Mention Mixed Media: Andrea Epstein “Still Life Triptych 6”

Best in Sculpture: Eric Beckerich “Untitled”

Honorable Mention Sculpture: Freya Gervasi “Lily”

Audrey & Norbert Gaelen are connoisseurs of fine art who are long-time supporters of JCC MetroWest and United Jewish Communities of Greater MetroWest New Jersey. This show is the continued realization of their dream to offer talented and creative artists in surrounding communities a unique and prestigious venue for their art.
