Women’s Soccer Scores 12 Goals in Senior Night Win

Last week the Yeshiva University women’s soccer team won 12-0 against visiting Berkeley College on Wednesday night at Riverside County Park South in North Arlington, New Jersey.

Yeshiva (2-11) was led by senior forward Merav Saden Barach, who had a hat trick with three goals and an assist. Saden Barach struck for the first two goals of the game, including the game winner. Sophomore midfielder Temima Kanarfogel came off the bench to score twice and assist on another score. Senior midfielder Natasha Bassalian had two goals. Senior midfielder Jennifer Shamsian recorded three assists and a goal while senior midfielder Erin Potasnick and sophomore forward Sophia Blumen both tallied a goal and an assist. Both senior defender Rita Gordon and sophomore midfielder Kinneret Braun scored goals, and senior forward Michelle Shamsian dished out two assists. Yeshiva senior goalkeeper Annie Jaffe recorded three saves in goal, while Berkeley (0-6) freshman goalkeeper Emilia Ohrberg recorded eight stops. As a team, Yeshiva outshot Berkeley, 36-7.

Prior to the game, the Maccabees honored their departing senior class for all of their accomplishments. Barach, Bassalian, Gordon, Jaffe, Jennifer Shamsian and Michelle Shamsian were joined by defender and team captain Devora Braun with defenders Eden Gellman Debbie Sedaghtzandi and Eliana Levy as they were recognized by head coach Gabe Haber and the athletics department, not only for their contributions to the women’s soccer program, but to the Yeshiva community as a whole. Although their playing careers are coming to an end, they will always be part of the Maccabee family.
