This year’s celebrations of Yom Ha’Atzmaut were tempered by the current war in Israel, but while everyone is all cognizant of the ongoing hostilities, Jews cannot remain in a constant state of fear. The day started, as it does every year, with a special tekes during which the flag was raised from half-staff to the top and WTA proudly declared the celebration of Yom Ha’Atzmaut—Am Yisrael Chai! The school day was filled with activities, including a school-wide zimriyah and rehearsals for each class’ special daglanut performance.

WTA has developed a tradition of hosting a BBQ for Yom Ha’Atzmaut over the years, and this year’s evening was no different. Good food, friends, family and music have always made for a celebratory atmosphere, and the inclusion of class daglanut performances have enhanced the event in recent years. This time, the avira (ambiance) was even more excited, as the evening culminated with a special concert featuring Simcha on Wheels. What a special way to celebrate the persistence and power of Am Yisrael!
