(WTA Sports) It came as no surprise that the WTA middle school girls in fifth-seventh grade led the effort in starting their own soccer team. Undaunted by the fact that they would be the first WTA girls ever to compete in the league, they did an impressive job of coordinating almost all aspects of the team’s formation.
Their first game took place on Tuesday night, April 12th @ Ramaz. Despite the absence of key players, WTA fought hard for a 5-5 tie. WTA was led with all 5 goals by Ava Nordlicht and lockdown defensive play by Leah Kessler. Aliza Shapiro was also spectacular in goal.
Both teams showed composure when a second ball was inexplicably and mistakenly inserted by an overzealous young fan into the field of play. The ball was quickly removed without a stoppage in play as players from both teams shook off the unusual occurrence.
WTA is very proud of their students for not only playing well in the game but for their initiative and excitement in getting the team up and running this year. We are looking forward to many more exciting games as the season continues!
