WTA Participates in WZO Global Purim Project

This year, WTA had the unique privilege of participating in an international project organized by the Education Department of the World Zionist Organization (WZO). The project, which coincided with the joyous holiday of Purim, brought Jewish schools from all around the world together in a meaningful exchange of letters, gifts and shared tradition. Just like in the days of Purim, when “books were sent to all the King’s lands,” WZO assigned Jewish day schools around the world to participate in a pen pal project, and our school was assigned a pen pal school in Johannesburg, South Africa. This exciting initiative allowed the students to engage with Jewish peers across the globe, building connections, celebrating a shared heritage and honoring the spirit of Purim.

In the true spirit of Purim, the students took part in this global exchange by writing heartfelt letters in Hebrew, the language that unites us as Jews, introducing themselves to their counterparts in Johannesburg. They shared something special about their school, their traditions and their lives here, offering a glimpse into what makes our community unique. It was an incredible experience for the students to express themselves in Hebrew while also connecting with other young Jews who, though miles away, share a deep bond with them through their shared history, culture and faith.

In addition to letters, the students recorded and sent a video of them singing “Kanfei Ruach,” a song reflecting the values of unity and moral growth, and wishing their sister school a Purim Sameach. The students in Johannesburg responded with thoughtful letters and beautiful artwork, expressing their Jewish identity and celebrating their own traditions.

This exchange deepened the students’ appreciation for the global Jewish community, reminding them that we are all part of a worldwide family united by our faith, values and commitment to preserving our Jewish heritage.
