Yavneh Academy seventh and eighth graders had the distinguished pleasure to hear from Rabbi Daniel Fridman, rabbi of the Jewish Center of Teaneck (and proud Yavneh Alumnus). Rabbis Knapp, Penn and Fridman first led the students in tefillot on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Israel. Rabbi Fridman then shared a teshuva drasha with students focusing on two questions about Rosh Hashanah: 1. What is the correct way to blow a truah?
2. What is the most important aspect of Rosh Hashanah: Shofarot, Zichronot or Malchiyot? Rabbi Fridman beautifully tied together the answers to these questions. In doing so, he also explained that the main focus of Rosh Hashanah is focusing on Hashem as our King. The best way to do that is for all Jews to be united as one and focus more on what joins us together—and less on those things that may make us different.
