Yavneh Academy ganon students visited the beit midrash where Rabbi Penn took out a real sefer Torah from the Aron HaKodesh! Each student had a turn to hold a yad and look at the words of the Torah. After seeing the Torah up close, the students learned that a person who writes the letters in the Torah is called a sofer. They spoke about how the letters of the Torah are not written with a regular pen, but rather with a quill and ink. The children then practiced writing Hebrew letters with ink (black paint) and feathers. They can’t wait to sing and dance with the Torah at hakafot next week!
