The broader Paramus community continues to struggle with the aftermath of the tragic bus accident that claimed the lives of beloved teacher, Jennifer Williamson Kennedy, and cherished friend, Miranda Vargas, and injured dozens of others, many of them critically. We continue to pray for the complete recovery for those injured and extend our ongoing thoughts of comfort and support to those in need.
In support of the community, Yavneh Academy hosted a school wide Family Art Night fundraising event on Thursday night, June 7. The evening was spearheaded by faculty members Dalia Golbari, Chaim Sussman and Gayle Clachko, and volunteer Michelle Golbari. Paramus mayor, Mayor Richard LaBarbiera, introduced the evening thanking the Yavneh community for acknowledging the need and showing spiritual, emotional and financial support. The mayor was also happy “to be back home.” He graduated from the Yavneh building when it was known as the Farview School. The mayor thanked everyone for attending and spoke to the families of Yavneh Academy about how we are all ONE community!
Yavneh Academy Head of School Rabbi Jonathan Knapp shared the night’s purpose and the true kiddush hashem Yavneh was creating. The art program began facilitated by Judy Cohen, a Paramus resident and art educator. Cohen is the mother of a Paramus East Brook sixth grade student and an instructor in the Yavneh after school club program.
Nearly 100 parents and children joined the evening where they produced beautiful pastel still-life drawings under Cohen’s direction. In addition to a night of art, participants enjoyed food, snacks and drinks donated by Dougies, Chickies and Seasons of Scarsdale. Many families participated in the raffle and won prizes which were donated by Gold’s Gym, Denis Flowers & Gifts and Chickies.
The evening raised over $7,000 for the Paramus Children’s Health Foundation. All supplies and materials were donated and 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the families. The funds will be distributed via The Paramus Children’s Health Foundation. To make a donation please click here https://www.gofundme.com/support-paramus-east-brook-families. The need remains and all donations are appreciated.
