Yavneh Academy Gan students started preparing for the upcoming holiday of Tu B’Shevat prior to vacation. They learned that Tu B’Shevat is a Jewish holiday that celebrates the “birthday of the trees” in Israel. They made an Israeli salad and had so much fun washing, chopping, mixing and, of course, eating the delicious salad.
In addition, the student learned that a family is like a tree. Each student made their very own family tree with their grandparents as the “roots,” who give constant support and nurturing. At the trunk of the tree are parents, who keep the family tall and strong and who make sure the children are always elevated towards Hashem and the Torah. The “branches” of the trees are the children.
