Yavneh Academy Hosts Second Annual Evening of the Arts

The creativity and talents of Yavneh Academy’s students were on full display on Thursday night, June 18, at the second annual Evening of the Arts event, sponsored by the Judah Marans Music and Arts Center. Undeterred by the closing of the building, the event was moved online. With 13 virtual galleries of student artwork, there were over 600 works on display. The galleries (online at https://eveningoftheartsya2020.webstarts.com/) were divided by grade level spanning first through six grade, with a special art at home challenge that included ECD through eighth grade. Some highlights of the exhibition were the third graders “Blue Dogs” inspired by the paintings of George Rodrigue. After learning how to draw the dogs the students used their creativity and originality to put their dogs into interesting scenes such as lounging on a beach next to sandcastles, riding a jet ski, and sitting in the oval office. The fifth graders wowed with their realistic shoe drawings complete with printed backgrounds created from the designs on the bottoms of their shoes. Finally, the sixth grade talented elective students learned how to draw still lifes with charcoal and demonstrated their knowledge of shading and highlighting.

Following the display of visual art was an extraordinary concert of music, featuring the talented students from grades gan to grade seven, and all levels of proficiency. The musical montage is available for viewing on YouTube at (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l386-2yfZS4&feature=emb_logo). The Evening of the Arts was coordinated by art teacher Malky Kazam and music teacher Marsha Motzen. Many thanks to Adam Bromberg (Yavneh ‘15) for his invaluable editing and production work.
